Revision of ISO 9001:2015

ISO 9001 is a standard that sets out the requirements for a quality management system. It helps businesses and organizations to be more efficient and improve customer satisfaction. The new version of the standard has been launched – ISO 9001:2015 to replace ISO 9001:2008.

The business environment has changed tremendously since the last main revision in 2000. The revision of the ISO 9001 Standard address the change in the business environment to keep the business growing. The one thing that still remains constant, is that to be successful, businesses have to adapt to meet the growing needs of customers.

ISO was originally written to help businesses to be more efficient and to improve customer satisfaction. ISO standards are reviewed every five years and is revised if deemed necessary. This is done to ensure they remain a useful tool for businesses.

Who should use the ISO 9001:2015 revision?

ISO 9001:2015 applies to any business, regardless of their size or their industry. If you are currently using the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System, it is recommended to switch over to the new revision. Benefits using the ISO 9001 Standard will help businesses to:

Timeline to change from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015:

There is a three-year transition period. This means that ISO 9001:2008 certifications will only be valid until September 2018.  After September 2018, businesses need to be certified on ISO 9001:2015.
